BEIJING - Humans are stripping nature at an unprecedented rate and will need two planets' worth of natural resources every year by 2050 if current trends continue, according to a report published Tuesday by the World Wildlife Fund and the Global Footprint Network.
"For more than 20 years we have exceeded the Earth's ability to support a consumptive lifestyle that is unsustainable and we cannot afford to continue down this path," WWF Director-General James Leape said in releasing the 2006 Living Planet Report in Beijing.
"If everyone around the world lived as those in America, we would need five planets to support us," Leape added.

And I'd be willing to bet if Americans stopped contributing to your sorry asses, you'd need five planets to equal the support you get now. "Stripping nature?" We thought that's what you wanted, for us to switch to renewable resources. Based on your own numbers, we should have actually run out of resources 5 years ago. The rain forest is alive and well, but we face some species extinction due to a lack of control of insects and vermin. The US IMPORTED 80 percent of its bee population last year. Why? Because of the explosion of a mite that kills bees. Why? No pesticide that controls the mite can be used in the US due to feel-good legislative action. If you truly think mankind is the source of all the world's problems, why don't you sacrifice yourselves to reduce the excess population? What's that? Oh, you need the other dumb SOB to sacrifice himself so you can continue preaching the word. I never thought of it like that before.....
